Little Jackie's Imani Coppola makes no bones about her feelings for Amy Winehouse. One look no further than 'Crying for the Queen,' a song that takes aim at the embattled British singer, on the band's new album, 'The Stoop.' "Judging your behavior and your junkie routine/It's time for you to get clean and stop creating a scene/Girl you ain't got s--- on me/Ain't got s--- on NYC/Got nothing on this city/Save all that crying for the queen," she sings.
"She's winning Grammys, she's a household name and she's snorting it up her nose," Coppola tells Spinner. "And there are a lot of talented people all over this f---ing world. I have more talent on my f---ing pinky than this girl."
Coppola's not all talk, having certainly paid her music business dues. Coppola first hit the scene back in 1997 with her song, 'Legend of a Cowgirl.' After leaving Columbia Records, she decided to go it alone. Coppola was later introduced to who would become her Little Jackie collaborator, Adam Pallin, by her longtime producer Michael Mangini. They two hit it off and thus 'The Stoop' was born.
Coppola's goal with Little Jackie is simple: "Bring great music to the masses."
Not that a little musical jab at a current headline favorite couldn't hurt in spreading the word. "The media gravitated toward it," she says. "I could f---ing care less."
