Scottish Rockers Try to Beat 'Granny'

What do 'Auld Lang Syne' and Franz Ferdinand have in common? They're both from Scotland, land of the Picts, the bagpipes and J.K. Rowling. Franz's 'Take Me Out' and the New Year's Eve perrenial are featured on a new list of 12 finalists for the honor of Scotland's favorite song, joining tunes by the Proclaimers, Deacon Blue and Wet Wet Wet. The competition also features Wings' 'Mull of Kintyre,' Rod Stewart's 'Maggie May' and the traditional national anthem, 'Flower of Scotland.'
Our vote, however, would go to another traditional tune, 'O Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny Aff a Bus.' Sung to the tune of 'She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain,' it's a nursery rhyme enjoyed by generations of sweet little Scottish rugrats who apparently have an overtaxed public transportation system.
Still, the list is lacking. Much as the Scots would probably like to, it's hard to ignore the tartan-clad Bay City Rollers, who could only have been more Scottish if Sean Connery were their manager. Teenage Fanclub? The Average White Band? Somewhere, the world's biggest Nazareth fan is threatening to shove yer granny.
