On This Date in 1990: Bruce Hornsby begins a two-year stint as keyboard player for the Grateful Dead.The Almanac Advises for September 15: "Instead of playing a slow, funereal dirge, many musicians are asked to perform upbeat music at memorial services. This is in line with a wish to create a festive atmosphere honoring the life of the decedent rather than mourning the passing of the dead."
