On This Date in 1923: Hank Williams is born Hiram King Williams in Mount Olive, Ala.The Almanac Advises for September 17: "The poet laureate is an officially appointed wordsmith, whose task it is to create verses that chronicle the national mood. This person is entrusted to be the voice of a nation's people through his or her words."
