Rocker Assaults Cops With Donuts

"That was a close one!" as Chief Wiggum says after nearly blowing off his own head, trying to eat a donut off the barrel of his gun in 'The Simpsons Movie.' NYPD officers apparently took the bait again when Scott Sturgeon, a.k.a. Stza, ringleader of several New York hardcore and ska punk bands, flung a box of donuts in their direction during a protest show at Tompkins Square Park. Observers say Stza also pointed his guitar at the officers and shouted "This machine kills cops!," a variation on Woody Guthrie's famous inscription on his own guitar, "This machine kills fascists." After the show, the police arrested the singer and tasered some audience members, who were shouting "Freedom of speech is dead!"
The confrontation comes at a time of mounting animosity between the local precinct and Lower East Side punks, who believe the cops are arbitrarily interpreting New York law to require the bands to perform at low volume levels. Stza and his bands, Leftover Crack, the Star F---ing Hipsters and the occasionally reunited '90s ska punks Choking Victim, have been participating for some time in events commemorating the infamous Tompkins Square Riots of 1988, in which police officers enforcing a newly instated curfew were accused of excessive force.
Hey, you'd be testy too if they were all out of chocolate glazed.
