    Rocker Assaults Cops With Donuts

"That was a close one!" as Chief Wiggum says after nearly blowing off his own head, trying to eat a donut off the barrel of his gun in 'The Simpsons Movie.' NYPD officers apparently took the bait again when Scott Sturgeon, a.k.a. Stza, ringleader of several New York hardcore and ska punk bands, flung a box of donuts in their direction during a protest show at Tompkins Square Park.

Observers say Stza also pointed his guitar at the officers and shouted "This machine kills cops!," a variation on Woody Guthrie's famous inscription on his own guitar, "This machine kills fascists." After the show, the police arrested the singer and tasered some audience members, who were shouting "Freedom of speech is dead!"

The confrontation comes at a time of mounting animosity between the local precinct and Lower East Side punks, who believe the cops are arbitrarily interpreting New York law to require the bands to perform at low volume levels. Stza and his bands, Leftover Crack, the Star F---ing Hipsters and the occasionally reunited '90s ska punks Choking Victim, have been participating for some time in events commemorating the infamous Tompkins Square Riots of 1988, in which police officers enforcing a newly instated curfew were accused of excessive force.

Hey, you'd be testy too if they were all out of chocolate glazed.

THESE ASSES SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAZERED AS WELL AS THEIR UNRULY AUDIENCE. NO WONDER SOCIETY IS WHAT IT IS WHEN PEOPLE WORSHIPS IDIOTS LIKE THIS GROUP AND RUSSELL BRAND-THE ASS THAT RIDICULED A TEEN IDOL BAND FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL THEIR CRAP,OR DISPLAY IT ON TV. THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM HOLLYWOOD, BUT THAT RIGHT, MOST OF HOLLYWOOD SUPPORTS THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR.

What a bunch of punks. Apparently their parents didn't kick these kids asses enough when they were growing up. And the sad thing about it is you know these wastes of space would not hesitate to call the police when their worthless lives are in danger. THIN THE HERD !!! Get rid of these punks, they're consuming perfectly good oxygen I could be breathing !!!

Law enforcement is different now yhan it was years ago. A simple traffic stop; sppeding, crossing the center line etc quickley turns into--"Where are you going, where are you coming from, have you been drinking, do you have anything illegal in your vehicle i.e. drugs, weapons etc and finally---do you object to having your vehicle searched?" I don't if all of thhis is legal, I just know that it happens. With this in mind, why do some bands go out of their way to name themselves Leftover crack, or The star f------ hipsters? because they can? And then, push the envelope as far as with reguard to curfew times, sound intensity, distasteful lyrics etc. As candy-assed as it may sound, in my time, the rebel bad boy image took a back to the music and it's message. The music and the "tight sound of instruements and vocal" was the whole trip. It's what got the attention. Usually if a band pushes its dark side-bad boy image, it's because the music sucks, and they know it

This is freedom of speech? Take his stupid butt to jail. The grandparents of the missing child Caylee Anthony and their entire neighborhood are under siege by every crackpot and loser in Central Florida, and the police here insist the maniacs have "the right to free speech". My derriere! What happened to the "right to privacy"? I'm getting sick and tired of people shouting the stupidest things under "the right to free speech'!!! I think you should have to pass an I.Q. test to even be ENTITLED to free speech! America is going to hell in a handbasket!!!!!!!!

I'm all for freedom of speech, freely voicing your opinion, free concerts and very much into rock music but seriously, these douches deserved to get an ass kicking! One thing if the cops came onto the scene picking a fight, but this dude was down right disrespectful. Just think someone may have needed help while the police were hauling this guy's ass to jail to book him! Thanks for making punks look really bad douche bag! Go listen to a Clash or Rancid record and try to learn something moron.

No way should this guy be associated with being in a NY Hardcore band. A protest show at Tompkins sounds more like a bunch of squatter punks just being a bunch of losers. You know the types that hang out on the Lower East Side and ask you for change and if you are stupid enough to give them any they might even curse you out after you do. So my point here is this isn't NYHC (New York Hardcore) bands doing this. Might be hard for some of the 1 toothed yokels from Arkansas to figure out but maybe James Sullivan (writer of the story) should look into it more as well.

I'm a 66 year old retired educator, and I say that many of the freedoms of the Constitution have been whittled away. Police brutality is rampant, and they have police "investigators" who absolve themselves of all blame, no matter how heinous. I don't agree with much of what these young people say, but I damn well think that as Americans they have right to say it. THAT is what made America the country it is...and we are losing that.

I agree but when your action start pouring into my yard then I have the right to get upset and have the same right to voice my opinion and have the right to do something about, I helped make sure of that when I joined the Marines at 17.

Leftover Crack is actually an amazing punk band. And it's freedom of speech! THEY'RE ALLOWED! Police are nothing but normal people, but with guns and a badge of power. Were they elected? No. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Cops are normal people, but with power.
Corrupted pigs with the authority to fire weapons and immobilize people with tasers. I'd love to see how they'd like it.

What a bunch of wannabe losers. I bet they don't even know what they claim to stand for. I'm more than certain that failure at life couldn't even properly define what a "fascist" is. Oh, and throwing a box of donuts is not freedom of speech, asshat.
