Santogold Meets Her 'Creator' on Tour

Santogold launched her first headlining tour this past Friday, with a complete live band and DJ in tow. The dancehall chanteuse (real name, Santi White) reports to Spinner so far, so good. Her exact words, actually, were, "So far, it's been a great tour." Previously, Santogold opened a North American arena run for Coldplay and, of course, hit the festival circuit. Her current tour sees her anchoring classic club rooms such as the House of Blues (multiple locations) and the Fillmore (ditto). "It's the first time I've been consistently playing in front of an audience who really knows all the words and all the songs, and the energy has been great," she says. "Plus, after doing festivals in Europe, it's a nice change to be in a more intimate club environment."
From the fan standpoint, after hearing her song 'Creator' get spun by every DJ in every dance club across the country for the past nine months, it'll be a nice change of pace to see it actually performed by the song's creator, with full instrumentation. "The shows have been so much fun for me," she says. "And the other bands on the tour are great as well."
For those paying close attention to adjectives, that's three "greats" in four sentences, but she's got a point: it does indeed sound like things are going great.
