In a new book chronicling the story of Blind Melon (well, more specifically, the late Shannon Hoon), titled 'A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on the Other,' author Greg Prato spends an entire chapter detailing the friendship between Hood and Guns N' Roses dictator Axl Rose.According to accounts by friends and members of both bands, Rose took Hoon under his wing, jumpstarting Blind Melon's career and, in the process, forming a meaningful friendship. Both frontmen originally hailed from the same small town in Indiana before, separately, migrating to Los Angeles in search of fortune and fame.
"We don't sit around talking about the music business or publicity stunts because that kind of talk doesn't matter much to either of us," Hoon is quoted as saying in the book. "We always seem to find much more interesting things to talk about."
Hmm. Music biz and publicity stunts aside, one has to wonder if, in their worldly discussions, the subject of Chinese democracy came up. We're guessing that it did not.

Can you think of a worse room than one in which those guys are chatting? Oh I guess when they start doing some drugs. That would be pretty bad.

No wonder Hoon overdosed. With friends like Axel, who need enemies!

Contrary to his bad bay, heroin-chic look, Axl Rose was not into the drug scene the way the rest of G&R was and many other musicians or frontmen were who overdosed. I am not even a G&R fan ,I like 2 or 3 songs of theirs & have never seen them in concert. Say what you want about Axl Rose being a control freak, having delusions of grandeur and an out of control ego, drugs were not his big thing.

SHannon Hoon, was an amazing song writer and singer, who left this world way to soon. We were blessed to get those three albums he put together with Blind Melon, it was majical. WIthout Axl, we probably never would have known of this amazing talent. Thanks Axl, RIP Shannon, One love to NICO
