Greetings:

I have to admit that I have always signed off my posts to Clay: Your absolute fan.

I, like many fans, have always thought that Clay could do no wrong. That he was this Southern gentleman with an amazing melodic singing voice, with a snarky and somewhat kooky personality, great comedic timing, and just the most warm and loving guy ever. But he had a geeky, dorky and a most curious type of sexuality, with somewhat of a mystery to him that drove his fan base bonkers. Today I found out what the mystery was -for he “came out of the closet” today, Clay is gay. Stop, be still my heart, for it was racing at an unbelievable pace. Our Clay - who has said all along that he was not gay and we fans backed him up to the max - oh surely not Clay. The clean cut All American geekie but lovable guy that we all thought we knew ? Surely not ! But Clay always said to believe no one except him of all the dirty press, which we did. Now, how am I to think about this, I said to myself.

After a bit of tossing it back and forth in my mind I find myself in an awkward position. Do I love Clay or not. Is he still the nearly perfect guy that I proclaimed to love. I finally declared to myself, what is different about Clay since I know he is gay - nothing. Clay has a right to be himself in all things. And we fans must accept all of Clay, not just what we would have him be. To see how happy Clay was about baby Parker while talking to Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America”, made me smile. Further, now that Clay is a Papa, what a wonderful thing - and he wants to be the best father he can be - which is what made Clay erase the gossip and set the record straight (no pun intended). I think that it was very difficult for Clay - but he did it for Parker. Clay is what he is and we must not stand in judgment of him. Fellow Claymates if you can, please let Clay know that all is well in Claydom still. I remain ....
