    'Fairytale of New York'
--Kirsty MacColl and Shane McGowan (The Pogues) (1987)

A guy in the drunk tank reminiscing about his junkie girlfriend doesn't exactly scream Merry Christmas, but McGowan and MacColl invest this yuletide tale of love in the gutter with so much heart it's hard not to get choked up. Following a reissue in the wake of MacColl's tragic death in 2000, the song has routinely topped Best Christmas Song polls in the U.K.

So lets get this straight, your idea of the "best" of something are 8 songs by gay, goth, british, and one hit wonder artists, not any of the least could be any one individual, who have for the most part never shared a chart? Yet duets that won award after award, made by some of the largest icons in the history of recorded music are considered the "worst".....

If you people spent more time studying music, instead of the eyeliner the Jonas Brothers are wearing, you might now what music is.

Looks like an intern dropped the ball big time - instead of Researching this when it was given to him a week ago, he googled it 10 minutes before post time and drew names out of a hat for best and worst. Where were Elton John and Keekee Dee, Nat and Natally Cole, Dolly and Kenny Rogers (not that I'm partial to these) but they should have been on the list good or bad .... now that I've replied to this, I realize that this intern did his Job- He /she pissed me off enough to reply to this Obsurd list of crap!!!!

I totally agree, apart form Freddy Mercury and David Bowie could not figure out who the heck were the other "artists". If they want "acurate list tehy should give the readers a chance to really vote!!!

If YOU spent more time actually studying music and not let the industry lead you around by the nose (you did say that awards make things great which has never been the case) then you would know that the best songs come from the least-likely of places. That being said, I must agree that this list makes little sense. The only two songs that belong based on the musicianship of the artists involved and the crafting of the songs, which are the criteria music should be judged on, are the Harvey/Yorke duet and the Siouxie/Morrissey duet. To all of those who complain that the Bowie/Mercury duet should have been number one, it would have been had Mercury not been involved. Easily the second most over-rated musician in history, right behind Elvis.

I'm on your side! I've never heard of 99.9 % of these songs in the first place compared to the "WORST" list. Regardless of this shitty "worst" list, most are still making millions without the help of AOL's SHITTY critics. Thank you very much.

You guys who picked these duets are a bunch of lost loosers who idea of picking these list comes out of a result of a acid gay infused evening the night before. I will never ever read this column again

No wonder these idiots didn't sign their names!!! ("Staff...") Their worst are some of the most enjoyable performances of all time!! Their best - mostly "artists" that never reached any degree of popularity singing songs most of us never heard of!!!All time best duet - Alison Krauss and John Waite doing "Missing You" - even better than her stuff with Plant!!!

what a 'staff infection.' the spinner staff shows a true lack of knowledge of the history of pop music. they're also trying way too hard to be hip. read some lester bangs and nick tosches and listen to a lot of music, not just selected tidbits.

This list is rediculous and subjective to the tune of some obscurity. Record sales contradict many of the statements, though I suppose the Macarena could technically be called a duet and I don't see it here (thank god).
