My Morning Jacket Frontman Hospitalized After Injury

My Morning Jacket leader Jim James was treated and released from Iowa City Hospital after taking one to the head mid-performance Tuesday night. Following a rendition of 'Off the Record,' James fell off the stage, collapsing onto a speaker stack and reportedly landed on his noggin. He wasn't trying to stage dive; he merely misjudged where the stage actually ended.

Drummer Patrick Hallahan told the crowd that, "Jim is really hurt and he's headed to the hospital right now." As a result of the injury, tonight's benefit for Barack Obama at Chicago's Schubas Theater has been canceled. MMJ's shows this Thursday and Friday in the Windy City have also been postponed.

Leave it to someone that is throwing a benefit for Obama bin laden to misjudge where the end of the stage is lol. Perhaps to much crack? Or is that just the hippy liberal way, without someone leading you around like a pig being sent to slaughter you can't even see where the stage ends. Dumb @ss. Go McCain!!!!!!!!!!

What does the person performing for Obama have to do with him. What ignorant people like you imprtchik need to relize is that Obama is highly educated and very intelligent BLACK male. I know backwards thinking people like you cant drill that into your skulls, you are still stuck in Jim Crowe times, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. It's Time for a Change. Obama is the best qualified person for the job at the moment. I'm sure he cant do any worse than the scum that taints the whitehouse now. Go Obama!!!

Wow - I was surprised to read such nasty, negative comments. Head injuries are not funny. Interesting that pro-war, pro-McCain people are the ones with the nastiest things to say. Go Obama!

As someone who has spent 30 years onstage singing & playing music, if you are staring into the lights and/or there is a scene change (dark to light or vise versa) you can be stone cold sober, lose your depth perception and miss the edge of the stage. It's an everpresent danger regardless of what your genre of politics or music happens to be. If he was a conservative endorsing McCain there would still be the same stupid observations from the Obama factor. How is it that politics is selectively responsible for any individual situation, while ignorance as a justification appears to be universal?

    Steve,
What are you doing posting here? That is the first intelligent post I have ever seen on these boards. Could there actually be more people out there like you who can think?

It sure doesn't take much to draw out some of the "ugliest" Americans. What a shame it is when they can jump on an injured person and stomp that individual for his political views.

You know what, this guy is sitting in a hospital, actually hurt and all you people can do is talk about the person he was supporting...that's awful!!! I myself am a McCain supporter, but I'm not going to say that this guy fell and hurt himself b/c of his political views. That's just plain ignorance on your part.

I don't know if I should be, maybe I just think more of people, but I'm disappointed in the reactions on here. My Morning Jacket put on a very intense light show and put their heart into every performance, and I'm sure under the glare of the lights he took a wrong step. I wonder how much self-satisfaction people are getting by lashing out at his political stance in such an ugly way. It seems to me that these are the kind of people that would refuse to listen to this band (they're incredible) because of their political stance (which isn't the focus of their music).
