An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and all that: An Ohio judge recently took some creative license with the medieval standard of fairness when she sentenced a hip-hop-loving disturber of the peace to 20 hours of classical music. The perpetrator, 24-year-old Urbana University basketball player Andrew Vactor, was hit with a noise violation when he was caught playing rap music played at excessive volume on his car stereo. Vactor initially agreed to the bargain, which would have reduced his $150 fine to $35. But he'll be paying after all: According to his probation officer, he lasted a mere 15 minutes with the judge's Beethoven and Bach.
"I think a lot of people don't like to be forced to listen to music," said Champaign County Municipal Court Judge Susan Fornof-Lippencott.
Evidently, the judge hasn't been forced to watch 'A Clockwork Orange.' "Using Ludwig van like that!" as Alex, the sick puppy in rehab, protests. "He did no harm to anyone. Beethoven just wrote music!"
