Rock Almanac: October 22, 2008

On This Date in 1988: 'Groovy Kind of Love,' by Phil Collins, grabs the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The song was previously a No. 2 hit for the Mindbenders in 1966.

The Almanac Advises for October 22: "While some slang terms are eventually adopted in standard English, others fall by the wayside instead. Words and phrases such as 'out of sight' or 'groovy,' for example, that seem fresh in the 1960's will be passé 20 years later."
