On This Date in 1965: The Beatles are awarded medals from Queen Elizabeth II marking them as Members of the British Empire.The Almanac Advises for October 26: "One of the most recounted fables told in lore is that of the pauper turned nobleman. In societies where there is little or no upward mobility from the lower classes, these tales give hope to the common people that their lot in life can improve."
