New York rockers O'Death went from Purchase art students to touring folk revivalists in a matter of months. The band received accolades for their Appalachian sound and frantic live shows, but learned firsthand of the inevitable backlash that accompanies blog buzz."I like the fact that some people don't like us," lead singer Greg Jamie tells Spinner. "It's healthy. It means that you're doing something right if you're pressing the wrong buttons for some people, and the right ones for some other people."
O'Death are currently on tour behind their new album, 'Broken Hymns, Limbs and Skins,' which finds the band shading their tunes with some darker hues -- an attempt, Jamie says, to combine today's aesthetic with the band's rustic banjo-and-fiddle approach.
"It's kind of short-sighted to think that we're just copying a certain sound or just splicing things together," Jamie says of some reviews. "I think we're very much a modern act. We are just as much responding to the music and the culture right now as any other indie rock band."
