All puns on the band name aside, when Slightly Stoopid passed through the U.S./Canadian border recently, they gave customs (and us) something to write home about: they were caught with an eye-raising amount of marijuana and paraphernalia -- a whole three ounces and more than a dozen glass bongs. Oh yeah, and a handful of hallucinogenic mushrooms.Fortunately for them, border patrol knows the cred that bringing home autographed CDs might get you with the kids. According to the website Celebstoner, the band escaped with two members getting written warnings, a $5,000 fine and a proverbial "tsk-tsk" (for felony charges that carry possible imprisonment). A band-issued statement claims that afterwards, the officer "asked for an autographed CD and told the band to have a good show in Fargo."
To those with decent deductive reasoning skills, this news should come as little surprise. After all, Slightly Stoopid has toured extensively with Snoop Dogg's boys, 311. So nobody thought they were stocking their bus with bubble gum and lollipops. Now, Kool Aid, on the other hand ... it's electric.

weed is legal in most of Canada, so what's the big deal? It's only a friggin flower from the worlds greatest plant. The Canadian medical association revealed in a medical journal that studies have shown that use of marijuana actually raises your IQ as long as you are not a "heavy user". It's great stuff for mankind, as long as it's organic.

I don't know who these guys are, but I'm glad they got off with fines and a warning. None of what they were caught with is as bad or at least as sinister as coke or heroin. I'm a musician and been one since I was 14. I'm 58 now and I started smoking dope when I was 16. I loved what it did for me and my relation to music and sound. However, I got side tracked with a 40 year digression in binge drinking. I'm so glad that it stopped.
People should be allowed to what they want to do. However, I'm very serious when I say it must be kept under control. Addiction is out of control and abusive.' I believe in Alistair Crowley's motto," Do what thou wilt is the full extent of the law."
We seem to be the only society that just goes nutso boinko over people using drunks. It's OK if they drink themselves stiff and then get into a car to drive. Or sit in a bar night after night and drink till closing. Booze in any form is such a boring drug. I can't do it without doing something else with it. But I'm done with booze. Now I have control over everything.
So don't be hating these boys whose privacy has been invaded. They're not criminals I bet they're all good guys. You have to watch out for the All American letter sweater guy. One of those guys from Patchougue just killed some hapless latino kid with 6 of his "buddies." Being an artist and a mutant I know many artists and fiends. None of them want to stab anybody for any reason. They might look scary to some, but they're harmless and loving. The All American types are generally driven by their father and coddled by their mother. They do things like dater rape and get away with it, because, "Deep down they're really good kids." They do drugs but lie about it. The All American kids are up to some very evil ans scary stuff and they get away with it, because "folks," buy into their image.
"Stoopid," or whatever their name is, wouldn't stab anyone. And they're up front about their vices. They have nothing to hide. They really are good kids.

SPCCOWB-
Wait a minute. You said this:(copied and pasted verbatum) "It's OK if they drink themselves stiff and then get into a car to drive." Have you been in a cave? It's illegal. There are laws against drinking and driving; when caught, one pays heavy fines, has to go to classes (which they have to pay for, not sure how much they are, I don't drink and drive), and they lose their license. Same as drugs...get caught with them or doing them...pay the price.

Dude - what a ramble that was. Too much weed? I think I got your point and I think I agree. LOL

Good kids? Academics? Community skills? Leadership qualities? Sorry, just trash with talent in an industry that specializes in trash.

Marijuana is not "dope". Cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, etc is dope my friend. I hate it when people call marijuana dope. all that does is relate us smokers to actual drug addicts. Its ridiculous.

I AM GLAD THEY GOT OFF; BUT IF IS WAS ME OR ANOTHER REGULAR PERSON WE WOULD HAVE'T GOTTEN SLAMED!!
cicuinicu1at 11-10-2008
TG Common sense is still among us. Too many laws, too many stupid laws. If it was 3oz on one lone person at a high school I'd have a problem with intent but 3 oz amongst a group of grown people for their own personal use does not bother me. DUI would have been a different story.

hahaha so it's not just a clever name.

Whatever the law, as long as it is law, it must be observed unless morality dictates otherwise (such as the murder of the unborn by Chinese population control mandate). And even then, one must be willing to accept the consequences for civil disobedience.
Officials should not discriminate based on the popularity, status, or wealth of the "criminal."

This is pretty ridiculous as with most celebrity crimes. If this were anyone else they'd be in jail. I don't car how much money or who you are, that doesn't mean you get off scott free because that's what's happening when in trade for felony charges they get a $5,000 fine.
Weed is also not legal in Canada, it's just tolerated. You can't just walk into a police station smoking it, but it definitely isn't like it is here. Is it legal, no, but it's accepted and tolerated if you're not being a moron.
Weed's illegal in the U.S., whether you choose to do it is up to you. However if you get caught then that's your own stupidity, no one else's so you should pay the penalty. I do believe that it's ridiculous that like 70% of our federal prison system is nonviolent drug offenses though, in the U.S. they should be "tolerated." I'm not ranting about legality, simply the fact they people get off scott free for being dumbasses.

Massachusetts voters just passed a binding referendum question to decriminalize possession by an adult of 1 oz. or less. The penalty of possession of 1 oz. or less will be a ticket.....no arrest, no record, no jail time. This passed with 65% of the voters voting for it. It's about time.
Cutieat 11-10-2008
Yes! Voters in Mass. approved a ballot initiative to deCRIMINALize possession of an ounce or less, for people 18 & OLDER, making getting caught with less than 1 ounce punishable by a CIVIL fine of $100. BUT you also must FORFEIT the herb. (I found that part more than "slightly stoopid" personally.) It will require violators younger than 18 to complete a drug awareness program and community service. The fine would increase to as much as $1,000 for those who fail to complete the program. The change in the law also means someone caught will no longer be reported to the state's Criminal History Board.
The proposition will become law 30 days after it is reported to the Governor's Council, which usually meets in late November or early December. But the Legislature could amend or repeal the new law, as they have done with prior initiatives passed by the voters, said Emily LaGrassa, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Martha Coakley.
Weed should be just as legal as alcohol. The opponents of legalization are the stupid ones claiming that violence on the streets, safety hazards in the workplace, and the number of car crashes would rise due to driving under the influence of weed. I guess alcohol doesn't cause any of these things in Mass.
sensiuat 11-11-2008
Cutie....I'd rather forfeit the herb and pay the fine than get arrested and lose my job because I can't pass the CORI. (I wonder what those cops will do with the confiscted herb...I'm willing to bet not all of it gets turned in.)
I doubt that the Legislature would amend or repeal the new law, as they have done with prior initiatives passed by the voters. The voters have spoken loud and clear, and at some point the state government has to listen. After all, this has been a non-binding question many times in the past, and the citizens have always voted to decriminalize. A friend of mine is a state senator and he said that this should be the end of the discussion with no road blocks for its implementation. The District Attorney in Hamden County HAS ALREADY DISMISSED all the cases he has pending concerning adults possessing under one ounce. He said he wasn't even going to wait the 30 days. So, I'm figuring if he has already done this, and Martha Coakley is his boss, this will come to pass without any interference.
