Alter-Egomaniacs: David Bowie

David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust

Ziggy Stardust may not be the first rock alter ego, but he certainly set the standard. Bowie's 1972 concept album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' introduced the titular hero as a rock 'n' roll savior from outer space, but by the end of 1973 the "Martian messiah" had taken on a life of his own. As Bowie put it in 1976, "I became Ziggy Stardust. David Bowie went totally out the window."

bowie ROCKS, and is FAR more talented than any of these other upstarts. like Vicky-T says, they are all just wannabees. bowie took the alter ego thing and ran with it- aladdin sane, thin white duke, etc- but he did it wonderfully and has so many great records as proof. a true genius! and his ziggy costumes were AMAZING!

"we love dancing and we look divine" David Robert Jones- birth name, actually, didn't have to rely on gimmicks dearie; first trained as a mime, he later collaborated on shows with whilst utilising his onetime teacher, the great Lindsay Kemp,to introduce theatricality to his concerts. i thought he was brilliant what with Ziggy but, no doubt about it, GAVE ANGIE A RAW DEAL.

Bowie has to be the most overrated performer of all time. He has vocal talent but has to rely on gimmicks to sell music.

Ahhh, the man of my dreams. I even got a great dane and bought him a rhinestone collar. I bet you can't guess what I named my "Diamond Dog" ;). The man is timeless, and like a real man, just gets better with age. I must admit, I am jealous of his wife, Iman. Grats to him on leaving us girls (and quite a few guys) always wanting more!

Bowie is incredible.... all facets. But his real name is Davey Jones. He didn't want to be confused with the "other Davey Jones" from the Monkees; changed his mane to Bowie from the Jim Bowie knife fame.
His worl is incedible up to Scary Monsters. I don't get it anmore. Maybe we both just grew up.
