Alter-Egomaniacs: Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks aka Chris Gaines
Chris Gaines is everything Garth Brooks isn't: dark, pouty, Australian and fictional. Brooks's alterna-rock alter ego released one album (the "career spanning" 'Greatest Hits') in 1999, and Gaines appeared as the musical guest when Brooks hosted 'Saturday Night Live.' But despite the massive publicity push, the cuddly country crooner's fans just weren't in the market for a proto-emo superstar. Alas, Gaines's current whereabouts are unknown.- Filed under: The Hit List

Folks, you're expecting much too much from these internet sucklings. As often seems to be the case, these workers are young and stupid. Most have not yet finished trade school before they jumped into the sick, sticky light of internet labor. Our demand for authenticity, our "normal" expectations, these are gone. Welcome to shit. this.

Geez! I thought for certain the late rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard would have made the list... After all, his monikers included such jems as: Ol' Dirty Bastard, Big Baby Jesus and Dirt McGurt...
At least he was original!

......for that matter, where is Garth Brooks these days? You notice his popularity took a big nose dive since the Chris Gaines fiasco. I think the last I heard he was trying to become a professional baseball player. And that worked out great too! Actually, I always thought he was over rated anyway.

What about Elton John? (Reg Dwight)? Actually, Alice Cooper was the name of the band. Vince Furnier only changed his name after the group went on tour and everyone figured HE was Alice, and his father kicked him out of the house... according to his autobiography "Me, Alice" he used to boink jelly donuts then feed them to his younger sister, Jackie. I wonder if she still speaks to him...

Oh- maybe you all have forgotten about the originators of the alter-ego band... remember a band called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band????
