Garth Brooks aka Chris Gaines

Chris Gaines is everything Garth Brooks isn't: dark, pouty, Australian and fictional. Brooks's alterna-rock alter ego released one album (the "career spanning" 'Greatest Hits') in 1999, and Gaines appeared as the musical guest when Brooks hosted 'Saturday Night Live.' But despite the massive publicity push, the cuddly country crooner's fans just weren't in the market for a proto-emo superstar. Alas, Gaines's current whereabouts are unknown.

Before all the ones listed in the article and in the comments (even before Sgt. Pepper, although the connecion is there) there ws Apollo C. Vermouth (Paul MacCartney), Dr. Winston O'Boogie (John Lennon), Mysterioso (George Harrison), Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), Cleo and Anthony (Cher and Sonny Bono). This stuff started long, long before most of these posers in the article even existed. Peace

George Harrison was "Mysterioso" when he played with Delany and Bonnie & Friends while aul McCartney used Apollo C. Vermouth and John Lennon was the famous Dr. Winston O'Boogie.

Hmm, the one I remember best was Stewart Copeland's alter-ego(drummer for the Police). It was Klark Kent and I remember his music being released on green (10"?) vinyl(the color of kryptonite)ay back in the day.
