"I'm not turning the whole world bisexual." --Katy Perry
The 'I Kissed a Girl' singer asked fans not to take her songs literally, adding that they are "just a snapshot of everything I'm going through."

In an ever music influenced world that we live in I think as artist, lyricist and producers there is a responsibility we automatically possess when conveying a message.Even some of our life experiences must be closely monitored so that it doesnt come across as the wrong message.

That's the same thing they said about T.V. and Visual Fine Arts. Art regardless of its media; is an expression of the individual not the world. The very notion that someone has to be mindful of the way they express themselves through art to pacify or cater to this quasi-conservative society is to seem somewhat fascist and makes it seem like we are living in a different neo-nazi America where the communistic leader and motto is " Hail Censorship!"

I have four children, one of them is a 12 year old girl. I know she's heard the song and she seems to like it. It bother her older brother. I must admit it concerns me that young people are exposed to concepts such as this. Young boys and girls are very succeptible to the lyrics of songs. Adults are more capapble to take a song with a grain of salt.
I agree with you, kenpen33. Artists need to stop preying on the young and use "shock" factors to be heard. They need to be held accountable.

... why would anyone turn bisexual after listening to a song?
It's a good record, but not /that/ good.
People are bi because they're interested in both sexes, not because they liked Katy Perry's song. :|

OMG. You couldn't be more right! WOW, very well said. It's JUST A SONG!.

Too bad you probably can't perform.

Katy Perry is like a high school girl who makes out with other girls in the hallway to titillate the boys who are watching. Her song has nothing to do with bisexuality or queerness, except in the exploitation of both for the sake of heterosexual lust.
eazybreezyoneat 11-29-2008
Her song is nothing more than another attempt to further the homosexual agenda. The religious hating left promotes this subversive stuff to youth because they are so impressionable. If it's okay to sensor people under "hate speech," then it should be perfectly okay to sensor them for immoral speech.
Of course, the left wants to decide what is hateful an what isn't. Only that which they dont support is "hateful" and only that which they do support is acceptable. Naturally, all forms of immorality are perfectly acceptable for the left because morals are subjective for them.

Homosexual Agenda:
Shower; coffee; dress kids, feed kids....
Drop kids off at school and daycare; work ass off all day like everyone else who helps make this world go 'round....pick up kids from day care, drop off at soccer practice, get pizza, get kids, eat supper... bathe everyone, get bookbags ready/get outfits ready, sleep........get up the next day and do it all over again.
Heterosexual Agenda:
See above.

Anyone that takes songs that literally needs their head checked, it's about as moronic as the idea of GOD.
neogioat 11-26-2008
And just as moronic as that statement you just made. :)

People can be whoever they want. But it shouldn't be based on a song. =D

I agree with some of you... people aren't gonna listen to songs & suddenly turn gay or bisexual o_O
She's just talking about an experience she (may or may not have) had. Song lyrics always do convey messages, but sometimes they're just stories. They're not always political, social, or religious messages, sometimes they're just diary entries that the performer doesn't mind sharing. Like the singer is saying to her friends "OMG guess what I did!". It's just useless fun.
I think this song is more directed at people who experimented when they were in high school or college and have fun memories of it. :P I don't think it's meant to offend, promote bisexuality, be a political tolerance message, or objectify the girl who was kissed - honestly, anyone who's been in a coed university dorm can probably relate to the song. XD
I think the song is nothing more than a useless little fun story about a girl who kissed another girl once. That's all there is to it. Anyone who reads any more into the song than that is honestly just overthinking things.

OK, so just listening to songs doesn't influence behavior?
Fine, how bout more songs about using handguns?
suz andy 10484at 6-08-2009
I agree with you in general, but I find the song offensive in it undermines the entire effort for equality for the gay community. In presenting "experimentation" as something vapid and not to be taken seriously, it presents homosexuality in general, and more specifically lesbian relationships, as not worthy of serious consideration or respect as relationships in and of themselves. As if the heterosexual world needs more encouragement to refuse to take lesbian relationships (or gay relationships in general) seriously.
While I don't believe in censorship and am not offended by the song itself, I do find it personally offensive and think it was poor timing for the gay community at large. In a few years, when gay rights have become more commonplace and states have stopped giving us rights, then taking them away, a song like this would pose no problem for me. Until then, Katy Perry is doing us no favors.

i hate this song. everyone is making SUCH a fuss over it! it's just.. no! youve gotta be kidding me. yea, and she's basically a one-hit wonder. She's probably just a lesbian poser to make guys listen to her music.
