Locksley Work Out the Kinks With Ray Davies
Locksley have learned never to say never. The garage rockers are opening for Kinks frontman Ray Davies on his current tour, something they didn't think possible."We never would have considered, 'Hey, why don't we open for Ray Davies and maybe back him up on a couple songs, too,'" Locksley singer Jesse Laz tells Spinner.
Two shows into the short tour, however, and Laz reports the jaunt is going well. "He's pretty funny," Laz says. "We did 'You Really Got Me,' and on his version, it ends with four hits. So we did it and he said, 'Let's do five hits. I think Van Halen did five hits.'"
Laz explained that Davies has particularly bonded with Locksley's drummer Sam Bair. "The first time we played, he's like, 'We'll do a breakdown at the end of 'Lola,'" he says. "Then he started clapping along and going, 'Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam.' Every time he sees him in the hall, he stops and talks to him."
The band will be out with Davies through Dec. 13, which gives them plenty of time to figure out the show's minor details. Like, which songs to perform. "We're just sort of figuring out," Laz says. "We have a dozen or 14 of his songs now. We've only done four a night. We'll see if we get a chance to play more with him."

The Show last night in Poughkeepsie NY was great. Locksley were a good opening act. Sound like early Beatle songs at times which I loved. I even bought their CD and just as I thought they sound even better on cd with their Beatle Style Harmony. Good energy band. As for Ray he was great he is an I con to see him in a relaxed laid back acostic setting was great. I wish I could just sit with him and talk music as he seems like a guy I would love to have coffee with.
