On This Date in 1972: 'Papa Was a Rollin' Stone,' by the Temptations, takes over the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

The Almanac Advises for December 2: "Depending on your perspective, the family lives of musicians are either to be envied or pitied. For example, Mick Jagger has sired seven children with four women (only two to whom he was married)."
