On This Date in 1969: Meredith Hunter is knifed to death by Hells Angels acting as security during the Rolling Stones' set at the Altamont Free Concert.

On This Date in 1970: 'Gimme Shelter,' a Rolling Stones documentary that features footage of the stabbing, is released.

The Almanac Advises for December 6: "Audience members should keep in mind that the show is on the stage, not in the crowd. Don't draw attention away from the performers and onto yourselves."
