On This Date in 1978: The Blues Brothers' version of Sam & Dave's 'Soul Man' is released as a single.

The Almanac Advises for December 9: "With its roots in the cotton fields, churches and juke joints of the segregated American South of the 20th century, there is no more authentic representation of African-American song than a rhythm & blues act."
