"If I had a kid ... I wouldn't want her listening to the Pussycat Dolls or [Fergie's] 'My Humps.'" --Shirley Manson
In a recent interview, the former Garbage frontwoman turned 'Terminator' accused the pop princesses of sending the wrong "messages" to our youth.

I love Shirley Manson! I am so mad that Garbage and theStart went on tour in California AFTER I MOVED TO VIRGINIA! Two of my favorite groups, together, and I didn't see them :-(
I digress. Yes, pop music today sends bad messages to young girls. It has since "Baby, One More Time," methinks.

I think that people are unrealistic when they think they will stop their kids from listening to pop music. Get a grip.

like any of her music sends a positive message! she needs to get her head out of the sand. very HYPOCRTICAL shirley!

How is it hypocritical? She didn't say she wants her kids listening to her own music, either.
Besides, anything Garbage put out is still 1,000,000 times better than the Pussycat Dolls or "Fergie".

How is it hypocritical? She never said she wanted her kids listening to her own music.
Besides, anything Garbage put out is still 1,000,000 times better than anything the Pussycat Dolls or "Fergie" will ever make.

Hehe! Try to say that three times fast.
I'm with Shirley. I wouldn't let my child listen to that either. I'd tell them that radios aren't coll anymore. Haha!
But seriously, I'd make it so kids won't listen to that till they are 18. Or considering the song choices, never.

kids have musical preferences besides what the parents orders them to have.
yea did any of you listen to only what your parents told you was good music. I didn't. FUCK NO. I was listening to the insane clown posse sing about murder rape and bloodshed when I was under 13. Definetly not what my mom wanted me listening to but thats prolly one of the reasons I liked them.
garbage is dead and gone. interview someone else.

No wonder your so sick in the head and can't view others opinions and respect them , u only care about you , you selfish bastard !
neoepyon28at 2-26-2009
Listening to music about murder and rape before you've reached an age where you can distinguish real life from imaginary is not something to be proud of.
Besides, ICP sucks ass.

who cares what she thinks? It's a free country, and we don't need her unqualified opinion....stick to your bad acting skills, which are perfect for the role you play on TV!

This is taken out of context...she was commenting on how sad it is that there aren't any "woman warriors" in rock music anymore. However, there are, just not in the mainstream.

I agree with her. But my kids are gonna grow up listening to Metallica, Motley Crue, AC/DC, and others of the like, so I guess I don't really have a say. I grew up listening to Motley Crue and older rock, so I don't see a problem with letting my future kids listen to it. But, I would not allow my kids to listen to most of the pop that is out now. It's mostly all about sex and drugs. Yeah. At least some of the old rock isn't about that. And definately older country, like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings. That's what my kids are gonna listen to, at least until they're able to make their own music choices.
