Kid Rock recently said that he wanted to take a cue from Amy Winehouse and adopt authentic '60s soul sounds. He should have sought out this former Tony! Toni! Toné! leader, who delivered the real deal with one of the year's most satisfying R&B cuts. Whereas Winehouse enlisted the Dap-Kings, Saadiq hired an original Funk Brother, percussionist Jack Ashford, and has effectively asked those Brooklyn retro-soulsters for the crown back.
