It might not happen anytime soon, but Stephen Malkmus is open to a Pavement reunion. The optimistic news can't help but delight indie rockers around the globe.
"Pavement was a really hardworking band through the '90s, so it wouldn't be surprising if we wanted to revisit that," Malkmus, who has fronted the Jicks in recent years, tells Spin. "The option's open."
But Malkmus also admits that he's having a blast with the Jicks -- which includes former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss, bassist Joanna Bolme and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Clark. Having recently wrapped a tour in support of this year's 'Real Emotional Trash,' Malkmus says the band will hit the studio next June with eyes on a 2010 release.
Meanwhile, Pavement fans will have to make do with the newly remastered 'Brighten the Corners,' which, like the rest of the group's Matador catalog, has been reissued with an abundance of extra tracks.
