"Oddly enough, I'm actually not a huge gay-marriage supporter." --Rufus Wainwright
After the gay folk singer revealed his surprising stance on same-sex weddings, he retracted this position, saying, "I am not nor have I ever been opposed to anyone's right to marry -- straight or gay."

Another non supporter of gay marriage and the list grows and grows...there is no chance of this passing especially during the administration of a black president because blacks don't support the gay lifestyle. Can't you guys just dance with each other and hold hands and be happy with that?
Rachelat 12-23-2008
lol yeah compared the amount of people who support it. He didn't say he was against it he just said he wasn't a BIG supporter of it which may just mean like he said he doesn't want to get married. Doesn't mean he would vote against it.
Beckyat 12-23-2008
No, we aren't happy with that. My gay son deserves the same rights as his straight sisters. Marriage will come. Time is on our side. Happy Holidays!

Let them get married maarraige sucks if they want to be miserable to go for it!!!!
Meghanat 12-23-2008
"just hold hands and be happy"...love is love and no one can tell you when you're not in love. everyone would be content with that, but being married is something special and everyone should be able to enjoy that feeling. if you're going to say that about any type of marriage it should apply to all

No we cannot even hold hands in public without people like you giving us problems......I want to marry my partner or at least have a union that allows us the same perks that most Americans enjoy. There are laws out there that will stop any contracts, medical directives we have with each other. Allow me the same rights as straight Americans. My marriage to my partner will not effect your straight lifestyle, I don't want to be with a women or marry a women, look at the many people that are in the navy, gay men who will marry gay women in order to get the same rights as others get, is their marriage legal or a fraud, let's get over this.

How dare you so something so ignorant and rude! Black people are no more opposed to gay marriage than white people, first of all. Secondly, if you think that people in the gay community should be happy with "holding hands and dancing," as if that could ever come close to the sanctity of marriage, you are saying that you feel the need to deny certain people the same rights you have. There is no reason that couples and what they do in their own homes should concern you in any way: they've done nothing to hurt you in any way; and they deserve the same happiness you do.

The issue is not sexual orientation. The issue is civil rights. Gay life style? What is that? Is there a black life style? A white life style? A Straight life style? I designed a tee shirt that says "If god wanted us all to be straight she wouldn't have given us Lesbians"
Annat 12-26-2008
I must respond to such a lopsided and uneducated view of the gay marriage... aside from spending one's life together, there are LEGAL rights afforded to the partners (like life determining health care decisions) that would otherwise be null and void if the couples did , as suggested, " just danced together and held hands". I am not asking for others to accept homosexual marriage, just hoping that one day ALL will be on a level playing field when it comes to civil rights

Being gay is not a 'lifestyle' - any more than being black or left-handed is a 'lifestyle'. If it were a choice, believe me, very few people would CHOOSE to be gay. Can you explain exactly how two gay people getting married (in order to enjoy the same basic rights as non-gay citizens) directly effects you - and why the concept is so offensive to you?
bjw1964at 12-26-2008
How ignorant do you have to be?
Regardless of ones sexual orientation, how would you feel to have your rights or choices taken from you? To be gay and not have the option to marry the person that you love above all others is ridiculous! Gay people are not asking for any rights that staight people do not get benefits from. Gay people pay the same amount of taxes as straight people, but gain none of its benefits.
This is not about gay rights - it is about equal rights for all - not select groups! Isnt this what the USA was founded on? WAKE UP!
Jordanat 12-26-2008
It's easy to tell us to "dance with each other and hold hands" when you can marry the person you love, isn't it?
Driven2Succeed21at 12-26-2008
i happen to know plenty of african americans LIKE MYSELF who support gay marriage..it is insanely ignorant of you to assume this and it just goes to show how LITTLE you know. ignorance like this is PRECISELY what prevents any time of change from happening. rather than assume that you know, CHECK YOUR FACTS.
Kendraat 12-26-2008
Who said that blacks don't support the gay lifestyle? You think every gay or lesbian african american gets put out on the street and disowned by their parents? Get a life. And that has nothing to do with simple human rights. You should be able to declare a legal union with the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, no matter what gender they are.
thatgirljdat 12-26-2008
you made me laugh! Thanks I needed that. Its really the common sense way isnt it?
Frankieat 12-26-2008
Would someone...anyone be happy with partial equality...?? Chane places for a moment and consider how you would feel. The struggle for equality will not go away....nor should it.
divergedwoodat 12-26-2008
Wow, you're a bigot!
Rosemaryat 12-26-2008
Z3onthefly you really need to get more educated. It's not about just dancing & holding hands. It's about a life long committment between 2 people & a constitutional right we have just as you do. There are black people who are gay as well. Please get with the program & into 2008 because this will eventually come to pass in your life time whether you like it or not!
Scottat 12-26-2008
I know more gay black people than I know gay white people... just because they aren't in the news.. doesn't mean they don't exist!
