On This Date in 1970: Elvis Presley meets with President Richard Nixon and requests that he be named a "federal agent-at-large" in order to combat the nation's illicit drug ills, among other problems. The Almanac Advises for December 21: "Undercover agents are often chosen because of their knowledge of the underworld. A clandestine narcotics agent, for example, must act the part of a drug user to maintain his cover."
