On This Date in 1984: 'Like a Virgin,' by Madonna, assumes the No. 1 position on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. The Almanac Advises for December 22: "The 'born-again virgin' movement has taken hold in some Christian communities. It entails young people, primarily women, who have been sexually active in the past vowing to be chaste until marriage."
