On This Date in 1974: 'The Joker,' by the Steve Miller Band, makes it way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.The Almanac Advises for January 12: "In several card games, such as poker or gin rummy, the joker is employed as a wild card and therefore can stand for any card of the holder's choosing. This makes the joker an immensely powerful card to have in one's hand."
