Vivian Girls Take on the Beach Boys

It sounds like a generational battle of the sexes. But lo-fi pop group Vivian Girls insist that they're just having fun with a recent cover of the Beach Boys 'Girl Don't Tell Me.'

"We really liked that song," bassist Kickball Katy tells Spinner. "It was one of the only Beach Boys' songs we could find that doesn't have any harmonies. So we thought, 'Let's cover that song and make up our own harmonies.'"

Katy and the rest of the band recorded the song for a 7-inch, which they released themselves. The girls even packaged the record, complete with a T-shirt, stickers and buttons.

"We made everything and we shipped it out ourselves," Katy says. "It was a couple hundred packages. It was a little bit annoying it took us like three days."

That's a do-it-yourself approach even the Beach Boys could admire.
