Chrissie Hynde might be a Pretender but she sure as all heck isn't pretending or putting on fronts when it comes to her views on animal rights and her work with activist group PETA. "I would say we could start electrocuting and strangling and terrorizing people the way that the factory farmers and scientists are doing, to get results more effectively," Hynde recently told Spinner. "But, you know, we try to keep it humorous. I mean, this is a war, so we plan on stopping the people that are torturing and killing animals. And however it has to be done, the job has to be done."Here's to non-violent alternatives: The Pretenders are launching a contest with PETA and You Tube in which fans submit homemade videos for their latest single, 'Boots of Chinese Plastic.' The idea is that fans lip-sync while showing off their plastic footwear, and in the process, they become a part of the solution. The band-chosen winner will be flown to L.A. to participate in the official video for the song. It's all for a good cause and, hopefully, nobody will have to be electrocuted or strangled along the way.
