Musical sweethearts Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova have ended their romantic relationship. In 2007's indie fairytale film 'Once,' the pair charmed audiences with their portrayal of an Irish busker (Hansard) who falls for a young Czech immigrant (Irglova). The two Oscar-winners carried the budding romance off-screen, while continuing to perform music together as the Swell Season. In a recent interview, however, Hansard states that he and Irglova are no longer romantically involved.
"It did become a real relationship," Hansard admits. "I think it was just a very natural part of what we were doing together. We had made the film. We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other's arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn't what we really wanted to do. So we're not together now. We are just really good friends."
Having fallen for the duo ourselves, Spinner named the film's poignant ballad, 'Falling Slowly,' the Best Song of 2007. A few months after performing for the Interface, Hansard and Irglova took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for that tune. Thankfully, the pair will continue to make beautiful music together, at least in the literal sense. They have a few upcoming gigs overseas (as the Swell Season) and are considering releasing a newly-recorded album independently.

What a lovely movie, this was. I've watched it three times, for the relationship and the music. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Pat,
Some times I think I must live in a cave, I have never hears of either musician, or the movie. Based on your post I am curious about the movie. Would you mind providing any deomgraphics about yourself....such as 25-335 yrs. old, single, etc. Most importantly only what you would be confortable providing and only ranges. If not I certainly understand. May God Bless All

The important note here is that they are still making music together. they are of 1 heart in that sense.
Marketa and Glen...continued success. You create music of great beauty.

Once ... wouldn't you like to see one of these relationships work out?

I have nothing but trouble losing my connection on a VERY regular basis. Frustrating, as I'm sure you can understand. Nothing can be done, I'm sure, just wanted to vent. Thanks, Deborah

Who are these two, I've never heard of them and really who cares if they split. People break up all the time and you don't see them posting.

if you knew anything about the movie and the amazing music they made together, you might actually care. they are so much more popular than half the A-list stars out there today, plus they won an Oscar. how can you not know who they are?

Opps, i meant to say "talented" instead of popular. they are popular underground though. also, Spin is supposed to provide you with news about good music, not just the stuff they happen to play on MTV or the radio

I thought he was very rude to her at the Academy Awards last year when they went on stage to accept their Oscar for best song. He went right up to the microphone, was not a gentleman at all, didn't even thank her (his co-winner and co-star in the movie) and then after giving his acceptance speech there was no time left for her to say anything and they were ushered off stage. He didn't give a darn about her. I think that said a lot about their relationship and its eventual demise. She's better off without him.

I couldn't agree more, vdld. Although I am sorry they didn't work out...I would love to see someone's romance last a lifetime, I am glad that they will continue to make music together. They are both very talented. Marketa needs to spread her wings and enjoy her life; she is way too young to make a commitment to anyone. Glen was a bore at the Oscars; nothing gentlemanly there. As is with most men...it was all about him. Didn't hear much about him except as part of his band until he collaborated with her.

Actually, in an interview they did after the show, Marketa said they had already discussed who was going to talk and decided he would because she is very uncomfortable in those situations. All she wanted to say was "thank you" which is what she said as they started playing music. When Jon Stewart called her back out on stage to get to say more, she didn't really want to go because she had already said all she wanted to say.

As a HUGE fan of the Swell Season, this made me very sad. However, given that they are still doing shows abroad and have another album to release, I have hope. They are fantastic people and I'm sure that neither of them will have difficulty finding anybody else. If Glen's looking, I'm available. :) I hope they continue writing and playing together as they really have a marvelous intertwining way of making music.

Yet another "teaser headline" from good ol' AOL, that turns out to be nothing once again. What jokes they have become!

This comment shows your ignorance & how little you know. The best talents are not always those splattered through the headlines & on TV. Look beyond your noses, all of you, please.

Another teaser headline from AOL. Who are these people? They are unknowns pretty much. AOL... sorry, you have gone down hill this last year, straight to the bottom and you can't get any lower. You're worse that the rag mags.

Who? AOL is REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel with this little gem of news.
