Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova Split
- Posted on Jan 26th 2009 4:00PM by Reg Gonzales
Musical sweethearts Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova have ended their romantic relationship. In 2007's indie fairytale film 'Once,' the pair charmed audiences with their portrayal of an Irish busker (Hansard) who falls for a young Czech immigrant (Irglova). The two Oscar-winners carried the budding romance off-screen, while continuing to perform music together as the Swell Season. In a recent interview, however, Hansard states that he and Irglova are no longer romantically involved.
"It did become a real relationship," Hansard admits. "I think it was just a very natural part of what we were doing together. We had made the film. We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other's arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn't what we really wanted to do. So we're not together now. We are just really good friends."
Having fallen for the duo ourselves, Spinner named the film's poignant ballad, 'Falling Slowly,' the Best Song of 2007. A few months after performing for the Interface, Hansard and Irglova took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for that tune. Thankfully, the pair will continue to make beautiful music together, at least in the literal sense. They have a few upcoming gigs overseas (as the Swell Season) and are considering releasing a newly-recorded album independently.

Who are all these people asking "who?" I've never heard of any of these people. Why are they wasting our time posting?
As for Hansard and Irglova, they are wonderfully talented songwriters and performers who deserve all the awards and accolades they've received. Sorry to hear about the relationship breakup, but glad to see they continue making music.
I feel sorry for all the people who commented about not having any idea who these people are. Their music is so amazing...Glen Hansard is truly one of the best songwriters in his genre.

I saw the movie "Once" and fell in love with both Hansard and Irglova--their music and their acting talent. The movie was fantastic, altho. "macho" men would turn up their noses, I'm sure. I happen to think that Irish movies in general are excellent. If you're a rapper fan, don't bother. Odds are, you just won't "get it." Their group "The Swell Season" was on Letterman tonight, and I was disappointed that they were just the end-of-the-show music entertainment. I hoped he would interview them. However, since I had seen the movie, it allowed me to get more info. on the group and brought me to this site.

I'm a 28-year old male and I am a fan of most genres of music including hiphop and rap. I loved Once. I saw it basically as soon as it came out in limited release years ago at a local art house theatre in Baltimore. Art is art and, to quote John Keats, a thing of beauty is a joy forever. There are no labels necessary.

You're most likely sitting in front of a computer, instead of indulging your ego with a mindless remark why not look them up on Google? It's quiet simple, you just type their names in the box and click 'search'.
Here's some free info for you - they won and Oscar and a Grammy. Maybe you could get a special award for typing into a comment box.
Message Concluded.
Who? As in who are you people? You may have to squint a bit as you leave your caves to go to your local shops to _buy_ the Swell Season record (not the soundtrack but the first proper release) as well as at least renting the movie "Once". You won't regret it. So bite your tongues until then.

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are very talented musicians, singers and songwriters. Jeez, why don't you people open your minds and not depend on People magazine as your only source of information. Just because YOU don't know who they are doesn't mean anything. It just shows now little your world is.
