How about Travis Tritt's song, "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares." Cell phones made that out-dated.
Taffyat 8-20-2009
Not only that, but to make a phone call at a pay phone costs more than a mere 25 cents!

What about the Stadtler Brothers' "Don't Wait On Me"? It contains the lyrics "...when the lights go on in Wrigley Field, I'll be comin' home to you"

We STILL have nothing to say to you, Morrisey...get back to us when you have a black Prime Minister. 1776 was over 230 years ago; get over it, Brits!
newinterlocutorat 2-14-2009
Too late to wield that cork rock opera Tommy. The UK have already had a woman Prime Minister. It happened about a quarter century ago. Her name was Margaret Thatcher and she was a Torey(conservative)too boot. By the way..Nice blue snuggie. I saw on TV where those things are pretty comfy and well used by the cult community. Is it hard to reach the Ouija board with all those floppy sleaves in the way?

How about Tupac? "And although it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready to see a Black president" That's outdated now
whabtbobat 2-12-2009
You make a claim it's outdated, but on top of that, the quote doesn't even make sense. Evidently, he wanted to make a statement about no black President, but the only thing he could think up as a rhyme to that was "heaven sent". Huh? What does that have to do with anything?

I blew out my flip flop..stepped on a pop top..Jimmy Buffet, "Margaritaville". Anyone remember when beer cans had pop tops?
lueruilat 1-30-2009
Yeah, but I also just popped the top off a woodchuck becuase this supposed twist top isnt twisting.
Donat 10-11-2009
A pop top is the metal top that used to be on the glass pop bottles
FBrimegaat 10-26-2009
A pop top refers to the the ring on top of a can, usually a drink, that when pulled, opened a hole in the top of the can.

How about Prince's 1999? "Let's all party like it's 1999." Yeah right. 1999 seemed so far away then but now it was 10 years ago.
Rachelat 2-12-2009
How about the song 'Sweet Home Alabama'. One of the lyrics is: Watergate don't both us none...
Rachelat 2-12-2009
UPDATE: I messed up and didn't put the 'er' on the word 'both'. It should be 'Watergate don't bother us none... Sorry 'bout that,

I hate to break the news to you at Spinner, but this story concept is weak . . . to say the least. In particular you cited Joan Jet, and Debra Harry (aka Blondie), two of the most innovative and well known female rock vocalists of their time . . . 30 years ago!
These ladies, and others of that time, such as Pat Benatar, the most successful female rock vocalist in history, pioneered the artform that made many of the pop tarts you see in today's music business possible.
I should point out that their music is still listened to today, by millions all over the world, and you want to poke at them, because of the lyrics they wrote 30 years ago?
I must be missing something here.
What's next??? I'm surprised you didn't drag Billy Holiday into the mix and excoriate her for lyrics that were written 70 years ago.
Of course, maybe you don't even know who Billy Holiday was?
I was rather astonished that you were mystified at the concept of an actual encyclopedia, with books ... of course, that would be assuming that you even know what a book is, or have ever read one.

charles, you are right on. there are no musicians/songwriters like benatar, jett and debbie harry. debbie harry started rap with her song. people make fun of the hair bands of the 80s but those are some of the best most listened to songs ever. 10 years from now no one will know what songs were popular in 90 or 2000. bunch of one hit get my money and quit wonders.
