Expired Lyrics: Songs With References That Have Become Badly Dated

Those old-time songwriters had the right idea when they rhymed "moon" with "June" -- because those two things should be around forever. When today's pop stars toss in all sorts of current references, they should keep in mind that today's lyric sheet is tomorrow's fish wrap. (They still wrap fish in paper, don't they?)

"America ... Where the president is never black, female or gay/And until that day, you've got nothing to say to me"

--Morrissey's 'America Is Not the World' (2004)

One down, two to go.

Americans criticise anything or anyone that isn't American. There have been so many references to Morrisey being Gay, as though the USA hasn't got the biggest Gay community in the world and if there is some disgrace in being Gay. There is more disgrace in being intolerant, in being a bully, in being stupid but syill insisting on telling the world what a bunch of assholes they are. So where does that put all the nasty ass comment makers on here that have nothing to say other than standing behind the other 300 million Americans for safety and shouting abuse at the rest of the world.
Americans, stop being so unkind, it is not so hard.
(0 points for the first person that tells me to fuck my self(including the ones who will now do it to be humorous))

Yet more goody-two-shoes preaching from Europeans... Guess it's easy to throw stones when you haven't had a genocidal war or a holocaust in at least sixty years... It's getting lame and boring. The snarling rage of a decaying and dying continent. What makes the comments doubly offensive is the idea that "I despise you but I'll take your money." If he stopped selling his records here and stopped performing here, I'd have a lot more respect for his opinion.

Just an observation.

We've been fighting so long for black rights, we did, and now we finally have a black president, so does that mean when we have fought for gay rights, we would have a gay president?

Never mind female. I would mind any of the latter 2 in the white house!

I think "I can't drive 55" is the most outdated song still played on the radio. It was relevant for the energy crisis in the 1980's when the speed limit was briefly 55 even on the interstates and I got a speeding ticket in Utah for going 70 on a stretch that is now back up to 75 mph. I change the station every time I hear that song.

So its bad if the Presidents are white and it would be good if only minorities could be President? That is sort of twisted thinking when in fact everyone can run for President but getting elected is the hard part. Obama was able to do that, though he had a huge machine behind him and it appears that the machine runs the country and not Obama, who seems satisfied to be just be a brand spokesperson for the machine, reading repsonses to scripted questions, etc. Morrissey's phrase is like "free speech". People who claim free speech almost never believe in the free speech of disagreeing with them. If you don't believe in gay politics, then you have no free speech. That position has harmed gay progression more than anything else. If you are unfair and uncivil to others you have no right to demand fairness and civility from others.
