Grammy Winners 2009: Robert Plant, Coldplay Lead British Invasion at the Grammys

Robert Plant and Coldplay lead a full-on British invasion at this year's Grammys, with Plant and his partner-in-crime, Alison Krauss, going five-for-five on the night, including wins for Album of the Year with their collaborative album, 'Raising Sand,' and Record of the Year for 'Please Read the Letter.'

"In the old days we would've called this selling out," Plant said. "I think it's a good way to spend a Sunday."

The duo also took home trophies for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album, Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for 'Rich Woman' and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for 'Killing the Blues.'

Meanwhile, Coldplay, dressed in attire straight from the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' took home trophies for Song of the Year ('Viva La Vida'), Best Rock Album ('Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends') and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals.

"We're not the heaviest of rock bands," Coldplay frontman Chris Martin acknowledged while accepting the award for Best Rock Album. Here's to self-awareness and a sense of humor.

Best New Artist went to Londoner Adele, who beat out fellow soul Brit, Duffy, for the honor. Adele also took home Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her smash 'Chasing Pavements.' Duffy would have hers, however, when she won Best Pop Vocal Album for 'Rockferry.' Representing the rock was Radiohead, who won the award for Best Alternative Album with their latest, 'In Rainbows.' Thom Yorke and Co. also brought along the USC marching band to drive it all home, with a performance of '15 Step.'

Sunday night's real drama began before the Grammy telecast, with the announcement that
police were questioning teen double Grammy nominee Chris Brown about an alleged felony assault on an unidentified woman early Sunday morning. Brown and longtime girlfriend Rihanna, also nominated, were both scheduled to perform but separately dropped out at the last minute. It wasn't immediately clear if Rihanna's absence was related to Brown's.
