When Spinner caught up with the trio from Lonely Island -- 'Saturday Night Live' guys Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone -- to talk about their upcoming album, 'Incredibad,' they made it clear that the album isn't supposed to be the next 'Dark Side of the Moon.'"It's a comedy album," Samberg said. "At least in our minds, it is." Whenever it came down to a decision to go with what worked better musically versus what was more comedic, the boys always went for the laugh.
Unlike their heroes Tenacious D, Lonely Island admittedly don't play any instruments. So, for their debut album, they relied on the help of guest musicians, including Justin Timberlake (for his famous role in 'D--- in a Box'), T-Pain, Norah Jones and the Strokes' Julian Casablancas.
For his vocals on the current single 'I'm on a Boat,' T-Pain's schedule necessitated that he had to record his part down South and send them in. "We were proud that, when we listened to his track, we could actually hear him laughing," Akiva says. Wonder if he offered to buy the boys a drank.
