British musician Patrick Wolf says that he doesn't have a problem with Madonna, despite reportedly being thrown out of her concert and battered by bouncers at her London show last September, after Wolf and his boyfriend were seen kissing."It was not anything to do with Madonna," Wolf, 25, tells Spinner. "I absolutely have no problem with Madonna. She's a total pop genius. It's not her fault that me and my man got thrown out of Wembley Stadium."
As previously reported, Wolf was handcuffed and removed from the venue, and claims it was because of his sexuality. "A bouncer at the door sees a boy in hot pants and a sequined shirt -- i.e. me -- dancing in the VIP area, singing really loudly [and] having a couple of ciders," he recalls. "I wasn't drunk, I was just dancing having fun. They just freaked out and couldn't cope with it.
"A lot of people know who I am and they just want to complain about me," he continues, "because I'm really loud, I'm 6'4, I wear what I want and I do what want. I was a total victim to their very ignorant English homophobic sports attitude, and they threw me out. [Madonna] has nothing to do with the security."
That aside, Wolf is already focusing on the next thing: finishing up his latest musical project. Originally a double-album entitled 'Battle,' the work is now going to be two separate releases called 'The Bachelor' and 'The Conqueror,' with the former having a scheduled release in June. "The Bachelor [has themes of] loneliness, hedonism, depression and melancholy," Wolf says. "The second album is all my depression being suddenly lifted by true love.'"
Two singles, 'Vulture,' described by Wolf as his "Los Angeles song," and 'Hard Times,' which is a social commentary track, are expected to be released. The project also the features the voice of Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton, whom Wolf met at the premiere for her film 'Julia.'
"I've written monologues for this album," he explains, "and then I decided that I wasn't going to have anyone read them. I really wanted someone who was an artist as well as an actress and Tilda to me was that person. I really wanted that real narrative voice. Within three days later she's in the studio, and we're talking about [director] Derek Jarman, English history and art."
Having already announced several March concert dates in the UK, Wolf is hoping to tour the States in April or May. While explaining that his shows draw different members of the audience, Wolf says that a mother named her two children after one of his songs.
"You may not expect this person to really care about electronic music," he says, "and she's like, 'Don't tell my husband...I escaped tonight with my two kids.' For me as a songwriter when I look out at an audience and people are into the music, and it's a cross section of society, then I feel like I've done my job."
