Paul Simon's reopening of New York's Beacon Theatre last Friday was supposed to be a special event on its own. But when it came time for an encore, the singer shocked the audience by bringing out Art Garfunkel for a three-song mini-reunion.After playing two sets of classics and newer material, Simon returned to the stage and introduced his "old friend" to the delighted crowd. The former partners then performed 'The Sounds of Silence,' 'The Boxer' and finished the show with 'Old Friends.' The pairing was believed to be their third appearance together since their 2004 reunion tour.
Simon's show at the famed venue was the first after a seven-month, $16 million renovation. Naturally, the duo received a huge ovation from the audience, which included Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Jonas Brothers. Perhaps that kind of star power will lead to another lucrative reunion tour.
