Robert Smith Hits Back at 'Idiot Critics'
- Posted on Mar 3rd 2009 11:00AM by John D. Luerssen
Cure frontman Robert Smith ruffled a few feathers last week when he made what was interpreted as disparaging remarks about Radiohead and their pay-what-you-want model for the release of the band's last album, 'In Rainbows.' Since then, Smith has taken to the Cure's website to lash out at members of the press for the way his Radiohead remarks were interpreted."These idiot critics have tried very hard to turn my general point -- a point I made using Radiohead's 'In Rainbows: Pay What You Want' marketing ruse as is the most widely known example -- into a mock shockhorror," he writes. "How dare anyone question the famously independent and anti-capitalist Radiohead. They sell more 'product' that the Cure so their strategy obviously 'worked' (Huh?!!). And anyway, Robert Smith is way too old to comment on contemporary culture."
Don't sell yourself so short, Mr. Smith. After all, look at how many dudes wear guyliner now.
