A little less than a month before the release of her second album, 'Jigsaw,' Lady Sovereign is heading to Texas for a series of dates at the SXSW music festival next week."I'm just glad that it's f---ing done now," she tells Spinner of finishing up the LP. "I'm f---ing excited."
Ready to go now, the album was a long time coming when the fame Lady Sov caught off her first album, 2006's 'Public Warning,' caught up with her and played with her head. Though she was touring around the world, playing to decent sized venues and even bigger ones supporting Gwen Stefani, stress took its toll.
"I never really had that," Lady Sov told Spinner when we asked her if anyone stepped in to give her advice. "The closest person to me is my manager. He was there through thick and thin. He was the one person I could rely on really up until I started spazzing out, like arguing with everyone and not wanting to talk to anyone."
During that time, Lady Sov sought the help of a therapist.
"It wasn't like intense therapy or anything," she says. "I just got depressed and s---. I read on some forum I'm recovering from alcohol abuse, which is bollocks because I haven't."
And though she's in a good place now, the Brit says she can't stay away from reading some of the things people post about her on the Internet. "I can't help it. I stopped, but recently I've started reading things again," she says. "I really shouldn't read it, but I guess curiosity killed the cat."
