"If you had more knowledge of music, [The Beatles] didn't really mean anything." --Van Morrison

In a recent interview, the seasoned Irish singer dismissed the Liverpool legends, adding, "To me, it was meaningless."

He is kind of right.... I mean if you think about it, The Beetles were good, but Mozart and people of his time were much much more talented... Lets say... The Beetles aren't the best ever, but the best of their time...

The only people who like Van Morrison are old Irish American drunks around Boston. He stinks and so did his band.

Ok so they weren't anything spectacular when it came to playing anything, but their lyrics and music still affect people today. They were the music legends of their time. Bands from Aerosmith to Micheal Jackson have remade their songs. What exactly has Van Morrison done that will be remembered?...hmm don't know

When they say " seasoned Irish singer " they must mean burned-out drunken Irish singer. What an assinine statement coming from someone who has always been an also-ran behind everyone of his time. Sounds like sour grapes from someone who never reached the heights that the Beatles did. Poor slob.

    Drunken and Irish are synonyms.

Here's my quote: "Van Morrison is a clown, who doesn't mean a f@#$ing thing, because he wrote two hit songs, that in the grand scheme of things are meaningless. He can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Beatles. They still are the most important and innovative rock group of all time. It shows how little VM knows about popular music, that he would venture such a stupid an uninformed opinion. Even if you don't like the Beatles, if you know anything about the history or rock and roll, you would know that virtually all rock today is influenced by the Beatles. Even heavy metal, was pioneered by Black Sabbath, who were majorly influenced by the Beatles. Same with Led Zepplin for hard rock. The Beatles were the essential step between early rock like Elvis, and everything we have today, because the original rock was an American combination of country with rhythm and blues, while what we have today, is the combination of those first elements with the English folk music, and sentiments. The English transformed American rock, and sent it back to us with some added depth that it has gone forward with ever since. That English movement was unquestionably led by the Beatles.

of course they were and still are meaningful to a lot of people and to music. sounds like these might be incomplete quotes. maybe he said, or at least meant that, the Beatles didn't mean anything to him. his influences were jazz, blues, r & b, so i can see why the Beatles pop/rock wouldn't impress him, no matter how excellent it was. still, if that's what he really said it was a harsh statement-but his own music is probably just as important, though not as popular. his contribution goes way beyond his few early hits. but why can't they all just be nice? but then, Van is known for being cranky.
