Chin Up Chin Up Split Up

Looks like the chins are no longer up for Chin Up Chin Up. The quirky pop band from Chicago is calling it quits this spring, after an uneven but promising eight-year effort. "I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we really had intentions to keep making music together for an infinite amount of time," says frontman Jeremy Bolen in a statement issued through the band's record label, Suicide Squeeze. "But just as this band began in a natural way, it is naturally coming to an end."

The final curtain will fall after a hometown gig on May 15 at the Empty Bottle. It's a venue that has eerie significance for Chin Up Chin Up as their original bassist, Chris Saathoff, was tragically struck and killed by a drunk driver during his walk home from a show there in 2004.

The band's MySpace page has been updated with Bolen's statement and the new tagline: "Peace out, big time." Later, guys.
