Inspired by Tim Buckley's 'Star Sailor'

The Britpop band found their name in the title track of the late Tim Buckley's album 'Starsailor' (yes, the song is two words -- 'Star Sailor' -- but not the LP title). Originally named Waterface, they quickly came to their senses, only to lose them again when they agreed to work with Phil Spector.
