Apples in Stereo Aim for Futuristic R&B on New Album

The Apples in Stereo are about 60 percent done recording the tracks for their next release, tentatively titled 'Travelers in Space and Time,' reports head Apple Robert Schneider to Spinner. The collection will debut in the spring of 2010 release on Simian/Yep Roc."There are a lot of overdubs to be done, but most of the basic tracks are done," he says. "I haven't done all the vocals yet ... I haven't even written all of the lyrics."
Schneider has been working on the songs since last fall, pushing towards a sound that is very different from former Apples songs. "I would characterize it as futuristic R&B-ish mega-pop," he explains with a laugh. "Remember when the UFO at the end of 'Close Encounters' comes down to the ground, all the lights are flashing and it's playing that music? It's like that, but the UFO is playing R&B music. That's what I'm aiming for."
The songs have a futuristic feel, Schneider says, with a soulful, romantic edge. 'Dream about the Future,' 'Hey Elevator' and 'No One in the World' are among the new, few song titles. "'No One in the World' is like a French pop song," he says. "Then there's 'I Told You Once, I Told You Twice' that's like a Hall and Oates crossed with a UFO."
"I'm really excited about it," he continues. "It's super poppy songs and it's very, very different in a really good way. It's futuristic like it's yesterday's vision of tomorrow."
Uh, got that?
