The Cure Get Unplugged at Coachella ... Literally

The Cure closed out Coachella 2009 with a surprise ending that even they didn't plan -- by having the plug pulled on them. After a set that ran nearly three hours (right around 12:40 AM which, technically, was past curfew) the plug was pulled as the Cure were still performing 'Boys Don't Cry.' Even the sound guys weren't warned, apparently.

With the house sound off and the stage lighting down, the Cure soldiered through the disaster by continuing to play a couple more tunes -- 'Jumping Someone Else's Train' and, ironically, 'Grinding Halt' -- using their monitor speakers alone before being forced off stage. The crowd, or at least, what remained of the crowd, went nuts and pulled in close to listen. This actually wasn't the first time the Cure broke curfew at Coachella. They did the same in 2004, but at that time they were only threatened with going dark. It was the most remarkable part of an otherwise unremarkable, but pleasant, set and definitely one memorable way to close this year's Coachella.
