Guthrie's personal copy of 'Forty Thousand Quotations'
Buy It Now price: $149,999.99
Seller's Description: Included in this book are 324 full signatures and 131 signed initials of Woody Guthrie, by far the largest collection of Guthrie signings in existence. The majority of the entries are for letters A through M, but Guthrie's writings can be found throughout the book. Given both the quality and sheer volume of handwritten entries and in the extremely well-worn condition of the book, it's obvious that this book was Guthrie's constant companion for many years. A portion of the outer spine is missing, but both covers remain attached. The pages also remained anchored to the spine, but display normal age toning. A light water stain is apparent in the upper right corner. Good condition overall. All of the entries, penned in either ink or pencil, are all bold and well preserved; grading "9" overall. 6 x 8.75 x 3.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
Our Take: The next time you're visiting your cranky old pappy, and he opens up his dictionary, picks out a word and starts sputtering unintelligible tidbits of wisdom, don't just roll your eyes and pass away visiting time texting under the table. Tell Gramps to start writing down those loopy gems, and make sure his hand signs each one, because your old Pappy could be Woody Guthrie, and in a few decades, you can sell that ratty book of senior talk and buy a scooter or something.
