Alice in Chains Finish Recording New Album

Alice in Chains have wrapped recording on their new album -- the iconic Seattle grunge band's first in 14 years. "We finished last night about two in the morning," Jerry Cantrell told Spinner last Wednesday night. "We've been working on the record for about six months."

Cantrell, who said the band is thinking about a September release, is already looking ahead to touring for the record. "Any of the songs would be great to play live," he says. "There are probably four or five that jump off the board right away, and when you listen to the record you'll know why I'm saying this. There's really good music on there."

The new record marks the first with William DuVall, the frontman who joined the band in 2006 for their reunion concerts. After two years of on-and-off touring, Cantrell tells Spinner this album was written as a unit. "We did [write everything as a band]," he says. "My role has always been pretty strong as a songwriter, and that continues to be the case, but everybody's really creative in this band. So good ideas have come from everyone, and that goes down the line with the artistic vision. It's cool."

I try to think about it from Layne's perspective as well as the perspective of a person that has lost someone very close to them. I feel that the idea here is instead of burying it, to keep the saga alive in Layne's honour. Everything Alice in Chains and Jerry Cantrell do now should be in honor and respect for Layne. Imagine if your best friend in your band passed, would you NEVER play again? No one will ever compare to the passion and raw emotion Layne had, but also remember it was not just Layne playing music here, it was Alice in Chains. Its all for Layne! We love you!

First Off I Am Goin To The Show In Feburary!!! Can't Wait, I am A Huge AIC Fan & Even Named My Son "Layne, I Love Him!!!! He Wasn't The Band Though And I Am So Glad We Still Have The Rest Of Them Cause The Music And Lyrics Kick Ass, Don't Get Me Wrong, I Would Much Rather See Layne Up There Again, But From What Everyone Says About Him, He Would've Wanted Them To Go On & William Duvall (The New Singer/Guitar Player) From The ATL!! No Doubt, Was There BecauseHe Was Doing The AIC Reunion Tour & They Ended Up Working Out So Well He Became Part Of The Band, He In No Way Wants To Try & Fill Layne's Shoes From What He Says, The New Album Kicks Ass & I Can't Wait To See Them In Concert!!!!!!

I believe this to be a huge insult to the memory of Layne. I would have had no problem with Cantrell continuing as Alice in Chains had he just done the vocals himself, but to find a replacement for Layne, that is just low! Think about it, all of you who are saying you are ok with it, how would you feel if Dave Grohl and gang reunited as NIRVANA with a new singer to replace Kurt and let the new guy sing all Kurt's songs!? A band is never the same without the original singer and, in my opinion, should always change the name because it will never be the same band. But Layne died! He did not just quit the band! You are replacing a legend who died and tarnishing his memory and legacy! Cantrell knows he will make more money by using the Name Alice in Chains and performing their old songs than to have a new name and only perform new songs. He is profiting off of Layne. What a great way to treat a dearly departed friend! If Layne could only see this, I would hope he would curse this travesty of a band!

Thats an ignorant perspective. He contributed to the music as much as any member so Id say its the groups songs not on individuals.

Hey Buddy

I believe the cd will be good, granted Layne is gone, but would you stop eating at mcdonalds if they changed ronald to doug the bunny??? So why not listen to AIC the way they are now???

It's AIC in a different form...Cantrell was and is AIC and he more than anyone would know what Layne would have wanted...Can't wait for new Rock and Roll!!

I agree with madame, the music just don't sound right without layne's voice, but, I will give it a shot, they are a very musically diverse band, and one of my all time faves.

It just isn't AIC without Layne.
I love this band, but I won't buy the new album, because I don't think it's right.
