Nellie McKay Loads 'Revolver' With Beatles Tribute

When engineer Geoff Emerick first entered a studio with Nellie McKay, he was recording her debut album, 'Get Away From Me,' in 2004. This month, the two enter the studio again for a very different project -- a tribute to the Beatles' 'Revolver.' It's an album with which Emerick has close ties -- he started work on it his first day as head engineer at EMI. "I'm tickled to work with Geoff again," McKay tells Spinner. "I hope it'll just be a big party."
Partying seems to be the theme with this project. McKay said she couldn't pass up a Beatles-related project. And with an impressive song list to choose from -- 'Taxman,' 'Eleanor Rigby,' 'And Your Bird Can Sing,' 'For No One,' 'Tomorrow Never Knows' -- McKay's contribution will be 'Yellow Submarine.'
"I'm thrilled to have 'Yellow Submarine,'" she says. "It's a party song. It's just so much fun and everybody knows it. It seems like you could go in a lot of different directions with it. We'll try to rip off John Lennon somehow."
"I probably heard John Lennon's solo stuff before hearing the Beatles when I was growing up," she adds. "It's kind of the soundtrack to my life. They were such quality, and they were so popular. And those two things so vary rarely happen together."
The album is expected to hit proverbial shelves this summer.
