Popular Pakistani Singer Allegedly Murdered by Her Family

A singer-songwriter from Peshawar, Pakistan was allegedly murdered by her family, according to the Times Online. Ayman Udas' death, which her husband of only ten days is claiming was at the hand of her brothers, is being taken as a political statement in this conservative region that has seen a steady increase of Islamic fundamentalism.

Udas sang in her native tongue (Pashto), winning acclaim and appearances on the state-run television channel PTV. You can watch one of her music videos here. Her family disapproved of her career and of her TV appearances, believing them both to be sinful.

It is not uncommon for popular artists (or comedians) in the region to receive death threats, and many have fled to more accepting, safer areas of the country or of the world.

Udas was in her early 30's, and married with two children. It is believed that her brothers broke into her apartment when she was there alone and shot her three times in the chest.

First of all the people leaving comments claiming to be Americans are actually Muslims even if they are American citizens, it doesn't change the fact they sympathize with Islam. And to say "Christians had the Crusades, but Christianity is supposed to "peaceful" is one of the dumbest statements. That happened over hundreds of years just like when Mohammad Bin Qasim and other Muslim invaders ruled the world for hundreds of years forcing people to change their religion and killing them. I lived in the middle east most of my life and I was tortured. I couldn't go to the police because they would have done the same. I met so many women who were tortured, raped and finally burned to death and no one told their stories. I'm VERY lucky to be alive and I know first hand those people are out of their minds. They kill in the name of Allah! Instead of pointing fingers and making false claims why don't the Muslims rise and denounce these acts?? If anyone has read the Quran they would know it contradicts itself. Yes, there are passages of peace in it but if you read some of the latest chapters it talks about honor killings and approves such heinous acts in the name of Allah. It says the Jews and Christians will never be our friends so it is OK to kill them if they don't convert. As a Muslim I had to read the Quran several times and I know what its like to live in fear so don't you DARE pretend to be peace loving people when all your agenda is to hurt innocent people who try to speak up! Islam needs to be reformed soon or no one is ever going to be around long enough for anything!

well one thing is for certain ahteist have killed more then christians, stalin, 10 to 20 million, pol pot, 2 million or 20% of the population. mao zedong possible 30 million and hitler started wwII costing 60 million deaths. certainly people have marched with religious banners in the past and killed under them but they were not that efficient back then at killing and there were less people. so the price does goto atheist for the most killings in the 20th century you cant fight those numbers

media didn't fool me, I served in Iran and Beirut back in the 80's when everyone said Iraq and those other Muslim countries were our so called friends and I saw first hand how they treat their own and I said it then and I'll say it again turn the whole place into one big glass parking lot and our and the rest of the world's problems will be over, time to quit pussy footing around with these people and either cowboy up or get the hell out!!!!!

I have a sister and I could not even imagine doing to her what these men did to their sister. I don't care that these damn radicals thought they were carrying out the wishes of their God. No God that I know of would encourage killing of any kind. They will find out when they end up in hell.

I would think that killing would be more of a sin than singing and performing.
