Chili Peppers to Honor Anthony Kiedis for Charity Work

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will have a reunion of sorts tonight when the MusiCares MAP Fund honors Anthony Kiedis with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the fund and for his commitment to helping other addicts.

As part of the celebration, drummer Chad Smith, currently of the Sammy Hagar-helmed band Chickenfoot, bassist Flea and Kiedis will perform alongside Ron Wood and Ivan Neville of the Neville Brothers.

"We're playing Kinks songs, Yardbirds and some Faces," Smith says during an interview with NoiseCreep. "It's really fun. I call it the 'Drug Awards.' Anthony is drug addict of the year. He's being honored. It's recovery stuff. A lot of people that we know are involved in that, so it's going to be great."

Smith is also slated to perform Stooges songs with Iggy Pop, the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones and Flea. A former suburban Detroiter, Smith was preparing to rehearse with the guys, with a break planned to watch his beloved Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks, 6-3.

The concert will take place at the Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Past recipients of the award include Slash and James Hetfield.
